HENSOLDT strengthens its supply chain for radar production
Long-term semiconductor agreement signed with United Monolithic Semiconductors (UMS)
The sensor system house HENSOLDT has signed a long-term supply agreement with United Monolithic Semiconductors (UMS). By 2030, UMS will supply a total of 900,000 gallium nitride semiconductor components for HENSOLDT radars. The agreement strengthens supply chain resilience and supports the expansion of production capacity in light of the sharp rise in global demand for sensor solutions.
The GaN semiconductors are used in the transmit and receive modules of modern HENSOLDT radar systems and enable particularly powerful high-frequency amplifiers. They make a decisive contribution to the range, precision and energy efficiency of the systems. The semiconductor components are being developed and tested jointly by HENSOLDT and UMS. They will subsequently be installed in particular in the Spexer radar family.
“Demand for high-performance sensor solutions is growing significantly worldwide. To ensure we can reliably supply our customers, we are systematically expanding our production capacities whilst simultaneously securing our supply chains,” says HENSOLDT CFO Christian Ladurner. “The long-term agreement with UMS is a key component of this strategy and supports the expansion of series production of modern radar systems, which are used worldwide for air defence and security applications.”
“UMS and HENSOLDT are long term partners in market introduction and production of innovative high frequency applications,“ says Xavier Crosnier, CEO of UMS. “Through this long term agreement, we are pleased to contribute to HENSOLDT expansion of production capacities and strengthening of supply chain resilience with our GaN industrial capabilities.”

Our company
HENSOLDT is a leading European high-tech company in the defence and security industry, based in Taufkirchen near Munich. The company develops sensor solutions, electronics and software for the air, land, sea, cyber and space domain, helping armed forces worldwide to detect threats early and make informed operational decisions.
Building on decades of experience in mission-critical sensor technology, HENSOLDT combines radar, optronics, electronics and cyber expertise with data-driven software and artificial intelligence. The aim is to integrate and analyse sensor data from different platforms and domains and merge it into a reliable situational picture.
HENSOLDT has thus evolved from a traditional sensor supplier to a new-generation system integrator – a ‘neo-system house’ that enables networked, Software-Defined Defence capabilities and supports information superiority in missions.
In the 2025 financial year, HENSOLDT achieved a turnover of €2.46 billion with around 9,500 employees. The company is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in the MDAX.
