HENSOLDT becomes industrial partner of the TUM Security and Defense Alliance

Sensor specialist and solution provider HENSOLDT and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have signed a letter of intent. HENSOLDT will become an industrial partner of the “TUM Security and Defense Alliance”, thereby strengthening its existing partnership with the TUM Venture Lab Aerospace/Defense. The official founding ceremony of the TUM Security and Defense Alliance took place on 9 February in Munich in the presence of Bavarian Minister of State for Science and the Arts Markus Blume and other high-ranking representatives from politics, industry and science.

The aim of the collaboration is to develop a central innovation platform for experts from science and industry at the Technical University of Munich, together with other industrial and institutional partners, in order to jointly promote viable solutions for the security and defence sector.

The TUM Security and Defense Alliance is designed as a long-term, interdisciplinary innovation hub and open multi-stakeholder platform. It combines the scientific excellence of the Technical University of Munich with industrial leadership and public sector players to strengthen European security and defence capabilities, technological sovereignty and the ability to stabilise and maintain international peace in the long term. The TUM Venture Lab Aerospace/Defense plays a central role in this, promoting technology-based spin-offs as an innovation centre. It supports aspiring entrepreneurs in putting promising research results and ideas into practice and provides an ecosystem with the necessary development environment. Within the Alliance, the TUM Venture Lab Aerospace/Defense will act as a driving force, bringing together all defence-related projects and promoting the planned establishment of a European Defense and Security Hub.

HENSOLDT already signed a cooperation agreement with the TUM Venture Lab Aerospace/Defense last year. By expanding this partnership, HENSOLDT is reaffirming its commitment to further promoting collaboration between science, start-ups and industry. As an industrial partner, HENSOLDT provides valuable insights into processes and defines realistic use cases and capability requirements. Regular exchanges in committees and working groups will open up new perspectives for both partners, create synergies and pave the way for future joint research projects and the implementation of collaborative projects. At the same time, the partnership is a strong signal to strengthen Bavaria's role as a leading high-tech location and to further advance European security, resilience and international capacity to act.

“The cooperation with the TUM Security and Defense Alliance is a perfect complement to our role as a partner of the TUM Venture Lab Aerospace/Defense, which focuses on promoting start-ups and potential investments – a further step for HENSOLDT to expand its innovative strength in new, rapidly growing areas such as Software-Defined Defence,” says Christian Schmidt, Chief Strategy Officer at HENSOLDT.
