HENSOLDT delivers first long-range radar system
Test, reference and training facility at the Parow Naval Technical School receives radar sensor
As part of the project to eliminate obsolescence of the long-range sensor on the Sachsen class F124 ships (ObsWuF LV F124), HENSOLDT has delivered the first long-range radar system to the Naval Technical School in Parow.
The system will be used at the Naval Technical School as a test, reference and training facility.
The land-based facility in Parow not only enables the training of users and service technicians, but also the testing of further developments.
“The installation of the first long-range sensor at the Naval Technical School in Parow is an important step in the project,” says Markus Rothmaier, Head of Naval & Ground Radars at HENSOLDT. "The radars offer maximum performance in airspace surveillance. It is one of the most powerful radar systems ever procured in Germany. It can be used not only on ships but also on land."
The project to supply a total of three TRS-4D LR long-range radars for the F124 frigate and a system for the Naval Technical School in Parow began in 2021. To this end, HENSOLDT has entered into a strategic cooperation with IAI subsidiary ELTA Systems Ltd. These S-band radars will give the German Armed Forces ballistic missile defence (BMD) capabilities for the first time.
In addition to the project for the German Navy, HENSOLDT has also been awarded the contract for the modernisation of land-based airspace surveillance in the Hughes Air Defence Radar Successor (HADR NF) programme for the German Air Force.
The TRL-4D LR radar systems, which are largely identical in design and are also manufactured in cooperation with IAI subsidiary ELTA, will be used here. This results in advantages for the customer in terms of logistical supply and thus the long-term operation of the systems. Further developments can be used across the board and thus introduced more cost-effectively.
In both projects, HENSOLDT acts as a contractor and manufactures the transmitter and receiver modules, thus ensuring that the components are supplied in Germany.
