HENSOLDT plans to set up a development centre in the Stuttgart region
Partnership with Bosch opens up new career opportunities for skilled workers
HENSOLDT plans to establish a new centre of excellence for Software-Defined Defence and Engineering, creating around 300 jobs in the Stuttgart region, with the aim of rapidly recruiting skilled personnel from the automotive sector for its growing Software-Defined Defence business. To this end, HENSOLDT has signed a cooperation agreement with Bosch and plans to lease vacant space in an empty building that forms part of the Bosch site in Leinfelden, near Stuttgart. Qualified Bosch employees, particularly those from the fields of systems development, software development and electrical engineering, can apply for the roles at HENSOLDT. Against the backdrop of structural change in the automotive industry, the partnership creates an opportunity to place employees with the right qualifications into new areas of work at HENSOLDT. The aim is to retain valuable expertise in the region and to safeguard the future viability of Baden-Württemberg as a business location.
“Software-Defined Defence requires high-performance software and data architectures that can be flexibly integrated into complex and sovereign defence systems,” says HENSOLDT CEO Oliver Dörre. “Bosch has built up outstanding expertise in the field of software engineering in recent years. We intend to make targeted use of this expertise as part of our collaboration to successfully establish our new development site in Leinfelden. There, defence systems such as MDOcore are to be further developed more rapidly and in a software-based manner. With the new site in Leinfelden, we are creating additional development capacity and opening up new career prospects for qualified specialists from the region, particularly from the automotive industry.”
The new site will focus on software architectures for networked, updatable defence systems, as well as the further development of development processes such as those that have been established in automotive development for many years. In Leinfelden, software-based multi-domain capabilities for HENSOLDT’s MDOcore software suite are to be developed, integrated and industrialised.
Due to high demand in the defence industry, HENSOLDT is currently significantly expanding its supply and production capacities and is seeking new skilled staff. HENSOLDT requires staff across the entire value chain, particularly in the fields of systems development, software development and electrical engineering.
By 2025, HENSOLDT will have recruited around 1,200 employees and plans to take on 1,600 new staff in 2026, primarily in Germany. The sites in Ulm, Oberkochen/Aalen and Immenstaad on Lake Constance are experiencing particularly strong growth.
