Your training as an industrial mechanic

(m/f/d)

In this profession, you will be responsible for the manufacture and assembly of mechanical products. You will then set them up, put them into operation and test their functions.

Your tasks will also include servicing and maintaining the products. In the training workshop, you will learn everything you need to know, such as milling, turning, drilling and forming. You will always have a trainer or supervisor at your side. Afterwards, you will have a wide range of prospects at HENSOLDT.

What you can expect:

Apprenticeship: HENSOLDT location in Ulm or Wetzlar
Theory: 1-2 days a week at the vocational school in Ulm or Wetzlar
Manufacture and assembly of mechanical products, including installation, commissioning, maintenance and servicing
Duration: 3.5 years

What you bring to the table:

At least a good secondary school leaving certificate
Interest in technology
Spatial imagination and manual dexterity skills
Ability to work in a team, commitment and flexibility
Good language skills in German and English

Around 120 HENSOLDT employees currently work at the Wetzlar site to manufacture target optics and optronic devices such as residual light and thermal imaging devices. In June 2024, we moved to our new location with around 7,000 square meters. These new premises offer sufficient space and brightness for modern working environments and short distances.

In the internationally renowned radar stronghold at the HENSOLDT site in Ulm, more than 3,000 employees develop and produce complex security electronics. The site focuses on high-frequency technology and has its roots in well-known predecessor companies such as Telefunken, AEG and EADS. A large proportion of the employees are engineers, primarily from the fields of communications engineering and electrical engineering.

Mechatronics

In this profession, you will create and assemble complex systems from mechanical, optical and electronic components. You will commission the finished assemblies and program or install the associated software. You will also be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the products. During your 3.5-year apprenticeship, you will learn everything you need to know in the training workshop and in the specialist departments, such as turning, milling and programming. You will always have an instructor or supervisor at your side. The theoretical knowledge will be taught to you in block lessons at the technical school in Aalen. Afterwards, you will have a wide range of prospects at HENSOLDT.

Surface Coating

Our products are constantly exposed to air, water or acids. To protect these parts, you refine them and coat them with various metals or paints. This is done using chemical, thermal or electrolytic processes. In addition to these processes, during your training you will learn how to handle operating and hazardous materials in a responsible and environmentally conscious manner. You will also learn how to handle measuring instruments in order to test the various workpieces. You will always have a trainer or supervisor at your side. You will then have a wide range of prospects at HENSOLDT.

Electronics for devices and systems

In this profession, you will be responsible for the production of devices and systems for the wireless transmission of voice, data or images. As an electronics technician for devices and systems, you will take on responsibility and work on your projects using modern technologies. During your apprenticeship, you will learn, for example, how to use measuring devices, a soldering iron and how to programme microcontrollers. Commissioning devices and systems, troubleshooting devices and rectifying faults and documenting your work processes are also part of your training.
