The academic component of the dual degree programme at the University of Cooperative Education provides you with the fundamental theoretical knowledge required for the practical placements within the company, during which you will gain direct insight into the field of work of a mechanical engineer specialising in production engineering.

The core areas of the dual degree programme are the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, including technical mechanics, electrical engineering and design, as well as manufacturing technology. In addition, knowledge of economic aspects and management enables systematic problem-solving – particularly with regard to customer requirements in the industrial and production sectors.

In practice, as part of the team, you will take on appropriate project tasks, depending on your progress in your studies, right up to your Bachelor’s thesis. Qualified engineers and supervisors will be on hand to support you at all times. Upon completion, a wide range of career opportunities await you at HENSOLDT in the industrial and production sectors.

In Oberkochen, around 900 employees have been developing, designing and producing state-of-the-art optical and optronic devices for military, civilian and security applications for 80 years. Optronic systems from Oberkochen enable fast and detailed reconnaissance for combat support, border protection and the protection of critical infrastructures. The Oberkochen site is the largest development and production facility of HENSOLDT's Optronics Division. The highly complex sensors for the various platforms for land, air, sea and space missions are manufactured in the production facility for sensor components, the periscope tower and the land and space production facilities.

More than 3000 employees develop and produce complex security electronics in the internationally renowned radar stronghold at HENSOLDT's Ulm site, which focuses on high-frequency technology and has its roots in well-known predecessor companies such as Telefunken, AEG and EADS. A large proportion of the employees are engineers, primarily from the fields of communications engineering and electrical engineering.

Optical Engineering

The dual study program at Aalen University provides you with the theoretical foundations that you can apply directly in the in-depth practical components at the HENSOLDT site in Oberkochen. During your dual study program, you will acquire in-depth knowledge of optics, electronics, mechanics and computer science. You will also have the opportunity to work on real projects in optical measurement and sensor technology. You will be actively involved in professional life right from the start with the independent implementation of projects - depending on the progress of your studies - right through to your Bachelor's thesis.
