The challenge

For modern radar-based reconnaissance satellites, reliable and powerful central radar electronics are required. It must ensure a low phase-noise frequency generation and, on the other hand, reliably control the radar system along with its transmission and receiver electronics.

In this context, an ultra-stable reference signal is needed for the radar instrument for frequency generation, as well as a high RF bandwidth for high-resolution SAR images. The digital control electronics must manage the signal generation and the potentially multiple receiving channels, as well as digitise, process, and meet the high demands in space.
