Modern military operations involve a multitude of complex challenges that can only be managed to a limited extent without technical support. One of the key challenges is information overload, as large amounts of data from different sources accumulate on the battlefield.
Another problem is limited situational awareness and the associated risk of wrong decisions. Dynamic areas of operation and outdated information make it difficult to reliably assess the current situation.
The coordination and command of distributed forces also pose a considerable challenge. Different branches of the armed forces, nations or units must act in a coordinated manner. Last but not least, decisions must be made quickly, soundly and transparently.
Our solution
TARANIS Battlefield is HENSOLDT's powerful battle management system (BMS) for network-enabled operations. It enables robust, secure and future-oriented communication under all operational conditions and ensures a consistent digital chain of effects – from information superiority to command, control and fire effectiveness.
The system is based on over 50 years of experience in the integration, implementation and operation of highly complex IT projects as well as over three decades in the digitalisation of German and multinational land forces.
The result: A combat-proven, scalable and quickly deployable BMS for the requirements of modern armed forces.
TARANIS Battlefield connects, sends and routes data between different radio equipment, sensors, effectors, command and control and weapon systems. It combines, filters and prioritises these data streams in one clear, up-to-date and cross-system situational picture that remains available even in disordered, fragmented and technologically heterogenous mission environments. This allows relevant information to be identified quicker, accelerating decision-making and reducing errors – the force remains capable of command, control and effects, even if the technical situation is not uniform.
The BMS creates transparency for commanders and decision-makers by clearly visualising friendly, allied and known enemy forces as well as terrain and mission information. By continuously updating position and status data, it reduces the risk of wrong decisions and inefficient deployment of forces and helps to avoid friendly fire.
The system provides a unified digital command and control environment that enables the coordinated, synchronised and traceable implementation of orders and measures. Structured workflows and a clear basis for decision-making increase the quality of command and control, response speed and effectiveness.
