The Optronics facility in South Africa launched its flagship product in 1997 with the LP16 . Since then, thousands of LP16s have been sold to high end customers around the globe. The LP16 uses Erbium Glass as the excitation medium, therefore producing an eye safe wavelength of 1.54 µm. The Erbium glass is pumped by flash lamp – still one of the preferred technologies for many clients.
The LP16 is ideal for use in observation and surveillance systems for land based, airborne or naval applications.
