HENSOLDT training for Emergencies

At the HENSOLDT site in Kiel, calendar week 50 is special every year – and not because Christmas is fast approaching. On the contrary, just before the end of the year, things get serious.

Kiel, Germany, 19 December 2018 – The main task of HENSOLDT’s Global Field Service is worldwide assistance – under all possible weather and safety conditions. To achieve this, HENSOLDT’s employees need to be particularly well prepared. "The week just before Christmas was chosen to bring together all the service staff from Germany. They are usually not all in the same place – at least half of the colleagues are always on duty, and the distances from between individual sites in Germany can be great. This makes it difficult to plan, control and monitor training courses spread throughout the year," explains Volkert Lorenzen, who is responsible for the Kiel site. This is why all topics are bundled and trained at the HENSOLDT location in Kiel in one week. Training in the crane hall for working and rescuing at heights with the aid of an eight-metre tower is certainly particularly interesting. The participants are supported by five trainers from an external company. The tower is guyed and secured by loaned weights supplied by a crane company supporting the course. “This year, 28 HENSOLDT employees from Kiel, Ulm and Taufkirchen near Munich took part in the training course. In addition, 21 participants from external companies were also trained at our site,” added Volkert Lorenzen.

However, the employees are also trained in matters such as fire protection, health protection, using and transporting hazardous substances, using personal protective equipment, working and rescuing at heights, first aid, driving a forklift truck, using an aerial device, operating a crane and attaching loads.

At the same time, the personal protective equipment, ladders and steps, lifting gear and building site equipment are checked for electrical safety in compliance with the German Statutory Accident Insurance Regulation No. 3 (DGUV V3) in reference to electrical safety and, if necessary, replaced.
