Munich, 03 September 2018 - HENSOLDT is supporting the initiative “Wings of Help … so that help can take wings” organised by Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. (Aviation without Borders) with a sum of 3,000 euros. At the Taufkirchen site, HENSOLDT CIO André Scheidhammer handed over a symbolic cheque to Frank Franke, CEO, and Bernhard Hau, Director of Finance & Funding of the relief organization Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen.

Doing good deeds together! In keeping with this motto, the Information Management Department decided to organise a donation as part of a IT satisfaction survey that took place in spring. For each completed questionnaire, two euros were collected for a charitable purpose. Thanks to the participation of 1471 HENSOLDTIANS, after rounding it up, a sum of 3,000 euros could be donated to “Wings of Help … so that help can take wing” – Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. HENSOLDT is happy to support this important initiative via the participation of the HENSOLDT employees in the IT satisfaction survey.

Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. provides sustainable help after humanitarian catastrophes. The organisation, which has been in existence for more than ten years, is based at Frankfurt Airport and mainly helps children in need. It is dedicated to projects in Myanmar, Nepal, Puerto Rico, Greece, Russia and Iraq amongst others.

One of its largest and most important projects is the establishment of computer schools in the target countries. The organisation will soon be opening another computer school in Greece, in cooperation with the local authorities and a Greek aid organisation. It is available to both young refugees and local young people so that they can learn together. Only a month ago, Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. opened the first two computer schools in two refugee camps in northern Iraq. “Education paves the way for the future, which is why we are happy to help in this specific area. Computers have become indispensable in today’s world. For this reason, it is all the more important to offer young people the opportunity to continue their education in this area,” said HENSOLDT’s IT director André Scheidhammer. The money generated from the IT survey is going to the “Computer School” project to make a sustainable contribution to global education.

Furthermore, in December 2017 Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. organised the transport of powerful generators to Puerto Rico. After Hurricane “Maria” swept across the Caribbean island in September 2017, the power grid was almost completely destroyed. The latest relief operation was carried out for the benefit of war refugees stranded on Greek islands in recent months. In August 2018, Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. sent an articulated truck with baby food, nappies, clothing, blankets and wheelchairs to Chios, one of the Greek islands. [NU]
